This policy outlines everything parents need to know about using Maya's Magic School Bus — from booking care to keeping your family's information safe.

1. Getting Started

Maya's Magic School Bus is an invitation-only platform. To get started as a parent:

Create your account — sign up with your name and email. Your account must be approved by the administrator before you can book.

Complete your profile — add emergency contacts, any medical information relevant to your children's care, and care preferences.

Submit a booking request — choose your service type, preferred date and time, and any special instructions.

Confirmation — the administrator will review your request, assign an available sitter, and confirm your booking.

2. Booking Policy

Submitting Requests

You can submit booking requests through the app at any time. Requests are not confirmed until reviewed and approved by the platform administrator. We reserve the right to accept or decline any booking at our discretion.

Minimum Session Length

Most bookings require a minimum of 2–3 hours depending on location, service type, and time of day. Minimum requirements will be communicated at confirmation.

Sitter Assignment

Sitters are assigned by the platform administrator based on availability, experience, and fit. You are welcome to note preferences in your booking request; we will do our best to accommodate them but cannot guarantee a specific sitter.

3. Rates & Billing

Rates are set by the platform administrator and communicated at the time of booking. Rates may vary based on the number of children, duration, time of day, and travel distance.

Overtime

Additional time beyond the booked duration is charged in 15-minute increments at the applicable hourly rate. Late pickups are charged at the standard hourly rate plus any applicable late fees. Please return on time out of respect for your sitter.

Holiday Pricing

Special rates apply during major holidays and high-demand periods, including New Year's, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other peak weekends. You will be notified of holiday rates before your booking is confirmed.

Outstanding Balances

Outstanding balances may result in suspension of future bookings. Payment is expected promptly after services are rendered unless otherwise arranged with the administrator in writing.

To cancel, use the "Request Cancellation" option in the app or contact us at mayasmagicschoolbus@gmail.com. Refunds beyond the above schedule are at the administrator's discretion.

Please cancel as early as possible. Last-minute cancellations impact sitters who have reserved time for your family. Repeated late cancellations may result in booking restrictions.

5. Illness Policy

Services will not proceed if a child is showing symptoms of contagious illness, including but not limited to:

Please notify the administrator as soon as possible if your child is ill before a scheduled session. Same-day cancellation fees may be waived in cases of sudden illness at the administrator's discretion.

6. Home Safety Requirements

You are responsible for ensuring the care environment is safe for both your children and the sitter. This includes:

7. Emergency Information

We strongly encourage all parents to complete their Emergency Information profile in the app, including:

This information is confidential — visible only to your assigned sitter and the platform administrator, never to other families or the public.

In a medical emergency, your sitter is authorized to contact emergency services (911) immediately and will notify you right away. By providing this information, you authorize the sitter to act on it in your child's best interest.

8. Payments

Payments are made externally through Square or Venmo as directed by the administrator. We do not process or store payment card information within the app.

Maya's Magic School Bus is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful environment for all families and sitters. We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue service for inappropriate behavior, including threatening or disrespecting sitters, providing false information, or any conduct that compromises safety.

11. Meet & Greet

We offer Meet & Greet sessions for families who would like to meet a sitter before committing to care. This is especially recommended for first-time users, families with children with special needs, or overnight arrangements. To request a Meet & Greet, select that option when submitting a booking request.

12. Communication

All booking-related communication should go through the Platform's messaging feature or via email to the administrator. By using the Platform, you consent to receive scheduling updates, booking confirmations, and emergency communications via email, text, or phone.

13. Privacy of Your Children

Any information you share about your children is treated with the utmost care — never shared publicly or with other families, visible only to your assigned sitter and the platform administrator, and used solely to provide safe care. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

14. Independent Contractors

Sitters on the platform operate as independent contractors and are not employees of Maya's Magic School Bus. The platform facilitates the connection between families and sitters but does not employ sitters directly.

15. Account Suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or remove a parent's account for non-payment, repeated last-minute cancellations, disrespectful behavior toward sitters or staff, providing false information, or any violation of our Terms of Service.
